Start your coaching journey in Nottinghamshire
Coaching is one of the most rewarding ways to contribute to badminton. Whether you’re an experienced player, a parent supporting junior development, or someone new to the sport, Nottinghamshire offers a clear, supported pathway into coaching.
Your coaching journey starts as an assistant ‘Foundation’ coach — you will learn how to support a Level 2 coach in delivering a group coaching session, building such skills as delivering warm-ups and cool-downs; shuttle feeding and helping players improve the fundamental skills in their game — grips, hitting actions and movement.
A Level 2 Badminton Coach is qualified to plan, deliver and review 1-2-1 and group coaching sessions for players of varying ages and abilities. You will possess a deeper understanding of technical and tactical development, and build on the skills learnt and embedded as a Foundation coach. Level 2 coaches design session plans, analyse player performance and adapt practices to individual needs. You will be able to deliver club programmes, junior county training and adult coaching pathways.
A Level 3 Badminton Coach is an advanced practitioner skilled in developing performance players, designing long‑term training programmes, and leading coaching teams. They apply detailed technical, tactical and physical development principles, mentor other coaches and contribute to county or regional pathways.

For qualified coaches, there are regular coaching CPD days to provide opportunities for everyone to get together and build their skills and expertise, ensuring we are up to date with all the most up-to-date thoughts and practices coming out of Badminton England. Often we will bring in nationally recognised coach leaders to facilitate these days.
