6th February 2023
Two Masters Team’s travelled on Sunday 5th February; the 50s playing against Cambridgeshire, while the 65s played old rivals Leicestershire.
The 50s team proved to be too strong for their opposition when they won three Men’s, all four Ladies and three Mixed rubbers, resulting in 10-2 win.
They have now convincingly won five of their League matches with only Essex still to play. This match is scheduled for next Sunday at Chilwell Olympia. However, Essex still haven’t played a League match this season and therefore their strength is unknown.
The odds are that Notts 50s team will remain top of the Midlands division and progress to the League Finals over the weekend of April 22/23rd at Birmingham University.
Unfortunately the 65s team were without their top man Ian Price who sustained an injury while playing in the Masters County Challenge weekend Tournament three weeks ago.
Notts lost all three Men’s rubbers but won all three Ladies, leaving both teams level before the Mixed. Both teams needing to win two of the three remaining rubbers to win the match outright.
1st Mixed pair, Jacqui Burton and Mike Nettleton, won their match in straight sets. 2nd Mixed pair Eileen Clarke and Phil Johnson were unable to win their rubber, leaving the outcome of the match resting on 3rd Mixed pair Lynn Davison and Mike Higgs. Unfortunately, they lost in the third set, resulting in a 5-4 win to Leicestershire.
Jacqui Burton was unbeaten in the match with partners, Eileen Clarke, Lynn Davison and Mike Nettleton.
The 65s next play Away against Worcestershire 2nd team on Sunday February 12th.
