Great start for Masters 40s & 50s teams

Notts Masters over 40s, 50s and 55s teams all played on Sunday 19th November. The 40s playing on their home courts at Chilwell Olympia entertained Worcestershire, while the 50s travelled to Lincolnshire and the 55s to Cheshire.

The 40s opened their season with a good start. They won all four Men’s, two Ladies and two Mixed rubbers resulting in an 8-4 win.
Andy Shaw and Alan Scott were unbeaten in the match.

An encouraging start for a relatively new team, with Dominic Hobdell, Kathryn Britton and Emma Julian-Wood, all representing the county for the first time.
The team next play Away to Bedfordshire on 3rd December.

The 50s team travelled to play Lincolnshire. Their all-round team strength proved to be too strong for their opponents. The team won all four Men’s, three Ladies and two Mixed rubbers, resulting in a 9-3 win for the Notts side.
Carl Jennings, Andy Cokayne and Paula Wilson were all unbeaten in the match.

Andy with partners Dave Barratt & Paula.
Paula also with Ladies partner Jane Smith.
The team next play Suffolk on 3rd December at Chilwell Olympia.

The 55s team, having lost 4-8 to Cheshire on their Home courts two weeks ago, played the return match at Cheshire. This time it was a closer encounter. Notts won three Men’s and two Ladies doubles, the score then standing at 5-3. Notts then requiring two Mixed rubbers out of the remaining four rubbers to win the match outright. Top mixed pair Mark Attewell and Loraine Buck won their rubber in two straight sets. One more win would do it.
2nd Mixed pair Warwick Mooney and Karen Gleave had a brilliant start when they won their first end 21-7 but then lost 17-21, 17-21 in three sets.
Unfortunately, Notts 3rd and 4th pairs lost their matches in two straight sets.
On countback, Notts side gained a losing 6-6 draw; consequently, Notts gained one point, Cheshire two points.
Mark Attewell and Loraine Buck were both unbeaten in the match, playing together at 1st Mixed.
Mark also playing with Men’s partner Neil Franklin. Loraine with Ladies partner Karen Gleave.
The team next play against Yorkshire on 28th January at Chilwell Olympia.
