19th February 2024
Nott’s Masters 45s and 55s teams entertained Worcestershire and Lancashire respectively on their home courts at Chilwell Olympia on Sunday 18th February. Both Worcestershire and Lancashire are both firm favourites to win their respective divisions and go forward to play in the League Finals in April.
Nott’s 45s top Men’s pair, Mat Haigh and Sion Severn won the only Men’s rubber against Worcestershire’s 2nd Men’s pair. Simon Vanderwalt and Darren Bridge were unlucky not to win either of their Men’s, losing 21-23, 21-23 against Worcester’s 2nd pair and losing to Worcester’s 1st pair 18-21 in the third end.
Nott’s Ladies were unable to overcome the all-round strength of Worcestershire’s ladies.
Nathalie Woolsey-Butler with partner Mat Haigh playing at third Mixed, successfully gave Nott’s their 2nd win of the day – scores 21-18, 24-26, 21-19. Final overall result, 2-10 to Worcestershire.
The team complete their season when they next play Shropshire on 3rd March at Chilwell.
The 55s match against Lancashire was also a battle. The Men lost all four of their matches, with both pairs losing to Lancashire’s 2nd pair in three ends. Nott’s 1st ladies pair Karen Gleave and Loraine Buck comfortably won both their ladies.
Overall, the team won two Ladies and one Mixed.
Loraine Buck was unbeaten in the match playing with partners Karen Gleave and Neil Franklin.
