World Senior Championships 2024

Nott’s Masters player’s Carl Jennings (over 50’s) and Ken Tantum (over 75’s age group) both travelled to Heusden-Zolder, Belgium to represent England in the World Senior Championships, which took place from 25th- 31st August.

Carl’s results:-
Over 50s singles – 1st seed, lost to Martin Blom (Sweden), 18-21, 24-22, 16-21.
Over 50s Men’s – 1st seeds, playing with partner Mark King (Leicestershire), lost in the Quarterfinals 10-21, 15-21 against Scottish pair Alan McMillan & Craig Robertson.
Over 50s Mixed – 2nd seeds, with partner Caroline Hale, Hertfordshire. (Caroline won in the O/55s singles). Carl & Caroline lost in the Mixed O/50s Final to Danish pair Kristian Pedersen & Dorte Steenberg 22-24, 22-20, 11-21.

Ken’s results:-
Over 75s Mens – 2nd seeds, with partner Roger Baldwin (Essex). Lost in the Semi Finals 21-17, 10-21, 10-21 to Carl-Johan Nybergh (Finland) & Ad Verhoof (Netherlands) - 3/4 seeds, who went on to win the event.
Over 75s Mixed – 3/4th seeds with partner Sue Awcock (Sussex). Lost in the Quarterfinals to English pair, 1st seeds – Mike Cox (Avon) & Linda Coombes (Hampshire) 17-21, 21-15, 11-21, who went onto win the event.

Statistics: - 1,554 players took part in the Championships. From over 35yrs to over 80yrs age groups.
Over 50s Men’s singles – Entry 107 players.
Over 50s Men’s doubles – Entry 70 pairs.
Over 50s Mixed doubles – Entry 77 pairs.
Over 75s Men’s doubles – Entry 18 pairs.
Over 75s Mixed doubles – Entry 18 pairs.
