Remembering Ash Mir - Club news from Crusader Badminton Club

Remembering Ash.

This year’s ASH MIR TROPHY took place on Oct 4th 2024, at Cotgrave Leisure Centre. Ash was a much loved member of Crusader Badminton Club and the Nottingham league, and he died of COVID over three years ago. This annual event is a wonderful way of celebrating Ash, who was both competitive and friendly in equal measure.

20 players entered the tournament, and congratulations went to Sion Severn and Lee Truong who were this years winners of the ASH MIR TROPHY, and to John Fletcher and Natalie Woolsey-Butler for reaching the final. An evening of superb badminton, played in a competitive and friendly spirit, with tasty lemon cake and nibbles to boost flagging energy, and a trip to the pub afterwards. All in all, a wonderful event to celebrate and remember Ash.

We sent an update and photos to Taz (Ash’s brother) who then wrote to the club:
‘That was absolutely amazing and thank you so much for keeping us all in mind. I am so happy the event was a success and fun was had by all. I know Ash would have wanted it this way. The competition is something he would have relished. You are all truly part of something bigger and better than just a badminton club (no disrespect to the club). The camaraderie is apparent for all to see both now and for the future generations that will be eager to participate as well. Long may it continue and again thank you for keeping us in mind.’

We are already looking forward to the 2025 tournament. A promise of great badminton and a heartfelt celebration of Ash.
