Nott’s 45s Team gave old rivals Derbyshire a fright!

Two Notts. Masters teams completed their league matches in the Midlands division, both playing on their home courts at Chilwell Olympia on 16th March.
The 45s were up against old rivals Derbyshire, what an exciting match that was. So many close games throughout the match. The score after both the men’s and ladies’ matches were both even, both teams winning two men’s and two ladies’ rubbers.
Derbyshire had to win this match to keep their hopes alive to win the League.
Nott’s didn’t give in. Nott’s 1st pair, Laura Birkinshaw and Alan Scott were unable to overcome the all-round strength of Derbyshire’s pair Rachael Gilchrist & Robin Harris. Then Notts. 2nd Mixed pair Lee Truong and Sion Severn won their match in three close sets. Score still level 5-5.
Notts. 3rd mixed pair, Julie Gater & Steve Farey won their match in three sets – score 6-5 to Nott’s. The pressure was then on both team’s 4th Mixed pairs. Unfortunately, Derbyshire pair won in the third end. Score now level 6-6. On countback Derbyshire won on games won, 15-13 and gained 2 points for a winning draw, Nott’s gaining 1 point for a losing draw.
Lee Troung was unbeaten in the match, playing with Laura Birkinshaw and Sion Severn.
The team’s final overall position is 3rd in the Midlands League.
Nott’s 55s Team, having already beaten Buckinghamshire 10-2 in the Away match, again showed their dominance when they played the return match at Chilwell. Nott’s won 12-0.
The team, having won the 55s Midlands League, qualify to join Nott’s 65s team, to play in the Masters County Championship Finals, held in Birmingham over the weekend of April 26/27th.
Notts. 50s team have also won the Midlands East division this season. They have a Play Off against Worcestershire on 6th April at Leicester. All being well Nott’s 50s will join our 55s and 65s in the Finals.

Nott’s 60s team complete their final match of the season against Lancashire on Sunday 23rd March, playing at Markland Hill Racquets Club, Bolton.
