Notts. 50s team won the Midlands East division comfortably. Today they played Worcestershire 50s team who also won their Midlands West division comfortably. The match took place at Leicestershire Badminton Association’s Hall. The winning team to represent the Midlands division at the Championship Finals, staged at Birmingham University over the weekend of April 26/27th.
Nott’s got off to a good start, when they won all four Men’s rubbers in two straight sets. The ladies’ matches were halved. Nott’s top ladies pair Paula Wilson and Chris Gleave were unlucky to lose against Worcestershire’s first pair by 22-24 in the 3rd end. Score now 6-2 in Notts favour.
Top Mixed pair Paula Wilson and Matt Tongue didn’t have it all their own way, when winning in three sets 24-22, 19-21, 21-12.
2nd Nott’s Mixed pair, Carl Jennings and Julie Gater won their match comfortably. However, Andy Cokayne, playing at 3rd Mixed with Chris Gleave, had to retire.
Bev Dolman and Dave Barratt playing at 4th Mixed, were so close not to win their rubber 18-21, 20-22.
The final score 8-4 to Notts.
Notable performances: Carl Jennings with partners Dave Barratt and Julie Gater and Matt Tongue with partners Andy Cokayne and Paula Wilson, were both unbeaten in the match.
Notts 50s team, who won the County Championships last season, will now join our 55s and 65s Teams who both won their respective Midlands divisions this season.
