BT Sport Industry Awards

Adrian ChristyA message from Adrian Christy, Chief Executive of Badminton England.

As you may have seen and heard, Badminton England recently achieved a new landmark moment in its proud history when our shortlisting was announced for the prestigious Governing Body of the Year category at the BT Sport Industry Awards, and in just two weeks’ time, 30 April 2015, the panel will decide!

This is the first time that we have been shortlisted for such a celebrated national sporting prize, and as you can see below, there is no doubt that 2014 was an outstanding year for us.

I really want stress that this important industry recognition is down to you – our extraordinary team at Badminton England, our amazing team of passionate and committed volunteers and our gifted and talented players:

* Our development programmes achieved record participation results, especially amongst young people, with the number 14-25 year old players exceeding 200,000 for the first time – the largest increase of any of the top 20 participation sports in England

* 547,000 people now play Badminton once a week

* England topped the 2014 Commonwealth Games Badminton medal table winning 5 medals

* Gabby Adcock was the most decorated badminton player at the 2014 Commonwealth Games winning a Gold, Silver and Bronze medal

* The National Badminton League (NBL) was successfully launched to promote elite level competition and fuel the development of new, emerging talent

* Badminton England launched a new commercial programme resulting in the greatest investment in the history of the organisation

It is a privilege for me to work with and lead such a dedicated and inspiring team of staff, volunteers and players who have made a huge contribution to our sport's success in England – boosting our success at an elite level and helping to create thousands more Badminton fans who are now playing and watching the sport.

I would like you to join me in celebrating our collective success by helping to spread the news about our shortlisting far and wide by informing your industry peers and via social media.

The relevant Twitter handle for the BT Sport Industry Awards is @SportIndustry and their hashtag is #BTSIA.

This will help us create a campaign in the remaining weeks ahead of the awards ceremony and provide us with a powerful way to really showcase your wonderful success.

Many thanks again for all your hard work.

Adrian
