Notts Masters players Carl Jennings (over 50’s) and Ken Tantum (over 75’s age group) both travelled to Jeonju City, South Korea to represent England in the World Senior Championships, which took place from 11th-17th September.
Both players did their country and county proud.
Carl’s results:-
Over 50s singles – 3rd seed, lost in the Final against Marleve Mainaky (Indonesia), 11-21, 11-21.
Over 50s Mens – 5th seeds, playing with partner Mark King, Leicestershire against Chatchai Boonmee & Wittaya Panomchai (Thailand), lost in the Semi-Final 21-13, 11-21, 19-21.
Over 50s Mixed – 3rd/4th seeds, with partner Caroline Hale, Hertfordshire. Having beaten the 1st seeds in the Semi-final, they lost to 3rd/4th seeds Carsten Loesch (Denmark) & Julie Bradbury (England) 20-22, 12-21.
Ken’s results:-
Over 75s Mens – 1st seeds with partner Ian Brothers (England). Lost in the Quarter Finals against
Per Dadelsteen (Denmark) and Pirachitra Surahkhaka (Thailand) 8-21, 18-21.
Over 75s Mixed – 3rd seeds with partner Sue Awcock (England). Lost in the Semi-finals to English pair, 2nd seeds – Ian Brothers & Jan Hewett 21-11, 17-21, 15-21.
Statistics:- 1,260 players took part in the Championships. From over 35yrs to over 80yrs age groups.
