60s looking good to qualify for the County Championship Finals

Two Notts Masters team’s played on their home courts at Chilwell Olympia on Sunday 5th March. The 40s against Cheshire while the 60s played Shropshire’s 2nd team.

The 40’s had quite a battle against Cheshire. In the level doubles, Notts 1st Men’s pair Andy Shaw and Alan Scott won one Men’s and 1st Ladies pair Lee Truong and Laura Birkinshaw won both their two rubbers. Notts 2nd Ladies pair Nichola Stokes and Abby Hunter were so close and unlucky not to win both of their matches. The score at this stage 5-3 to Cheshire, with Notts needing all four Mixed rubbers to gain an outright win.
Notts got off to a great start when 1st Mixed pair Lee Truong & Sion Severn, 2nd Mixed pair Laura Birkinshaw & Andy Shaw both won their matches, both in three sets. Score now level at 5-5, each team needing to win the final two rubbers.
The outcome was level at six rubbers each with Cheshire winning the match on countback by 14 games to Notts 13. A good all round team effort from the Notts side.
Lee Truong and Laura Birkinshaw were both unbeaten in the match.
The team next play the return match against Cheshire next Sunday at Ellesmere Port.

Notts 60s team had a comfortable win against bottom of the League Shropshire 2nd team.
The match score 12-0 to Notts, all games won in two straight sets.
The team remain unbeaten in the Midlands League with one match still to play against Shropshire 1st on April 2nd.
The team are strong favourites to progress to the County Championship Finals held over the weekend of April 22/23rd at Birmingham University. They will join Notts 50s and 55s teams who have already qualified.

40s Team:-
