Carl Jennings – Triple National Over 50s Masters Champion 2024
Three Notts. Masters players played in the annual 29th National Masters Championships 2024, over the weekend of Fri. 29th November – Sun. 1st December at Hertfordshire Sports Village, Hatfield.
The players: Carl Jennings, Forest B.C., Paula Wilson, Bingham B.C. and Ken Tantum Southwell B.C.
At last year’s Masters Championships, Carl won the over 50s singles and with Paula won the over 50s Mixed doubles.
This season Carl was seeded 2nd in the 50s singles event. He beat 1st seed Kenton Jones from Kent in three sets, 14-21, 21-13, 21-11 thereby retaining his title.
In the over 50s Men’s doubles, Carl played with his regular partner for many years, Mark King from Leicestershire. They were seeded 1st pair. They beat the 3rd seeds from Yorkshire, James Babington and Phil Sunderland in two straight sets, 21-19, 21-11.
Carl and Paula, who were not seeded last season, when Paula played her overdue debut appearance in Masters Tournaments, were seeded 1st this season. They beat Carl’s men’s partner Mark King and Caz Lee, from Hampshire – 2nd seeds. 21-18, 19-21, 21-18.
The over 75s Men’s and Mixed doubles were played in two groups. Both groups consisting of three pairs, all playing against each other. The winner in each group went onto play each other in the Final.
Ken and his partner Roger Baldwin (Essex) – 2nd seeds, came 2nd in their group.
Ken and his Mixed partner Sue Awcock (Sussex), lost to old rivals 1st seeds Jim Garrett and Mary Jenner from Kent, who won the overall 75s Mixed doubles in the Final.
